Clem Flowers - High Fly Flow
Star strain
bursts
before the station lights
Like drowning campfires-
Aspens kneel
in time with the
Song
Of the shuddering peaks
In the forlorn mining town
My blood has roamed
Since the newspapers argued
The merits of the New Deal
& my skull blooms flakes of
weeping willow ash
& i feel my soul
corrode
into a new sun
Like the one we were promised
For ages
On the welcome to town billboard
Above the Kiwanis & Lion's Club signs
