Jenny Wong - Ghost Reservoir on a Mid-Autumn Night
Leaves find their fire

on the edge of an aging summer

just before their fallen bodies

mar a mirror’s surface,

little pyres

extinguished

by a pinch of cold.

Wind whispers,

enchants ripples to stars

as water wraps

floating memories of summer

in shrouds of fading cloud

and silent moonglow,

adding to the ghosts

it already carries.

Nearby, the town sleeps

sealed beneath

the shingles of their boathouses,

still too young to understand

the day can be such a predatory thing

as morning slinks

beneath curved earth,

another attempt to capture

the round light that exists

in darkness.
