Eve Chancellor – Lunch with S, 2pm, Olive and Thyme
Nothing heavy,
I tell you on the phone
I’m having difficulty keeping food
down
so, we sit in the restaurant
and think
dipping pitta bread
in houmous and baba ganoush –
nobody wants to be the first
to bring it up
but we talk
about this and that
and, inevitably,
suicide comes up. At least,
your leak is fixed.
Water damage is the worst.
Back at home, I open all the
windows, doors,
air out the apartment. Press
an ice lolly from the freezer
against my forehead.
Yes, I think. This is what I was promised. Not
that, but this, this, this, all this,
more
everything.

Helen Gwyn Jones started recording her world at the age of 8 when she bought a Brownie camera from her sister, something which has become a lifelong passion. A collector of the past (hers and other people’s) she likes nothing better than muted images of imperfection. Oft found poring over Welsh grammar books when not photographing drains or rapturing over rust. Recently published at Acropolis Journal, Paddler, Pareidolia, Blink Ink, Hecate, Moss Puppy, Levatio, Camas, Storyteller’s Refrain, Full House Literary.
