Eve Chancellor – The Horses in Macbeth
It was said that the horses ate each other;
turned wild, broke their stalls. When the world
imploded, there was nothing left to do
but kill, or be killed. That was when
Macbeth knew that he had really had it.
When the mousing owl butchered the falcon.
There are always people who will prey
on those more vulnerable than them - take
the government. A horse doesn't kill
because it wants to kill. A horse only bucks
because it is spooked. Funny, don't you think?
To imagine a world full of peace. Where we
only take what we need. And only kick
when we’re down, when we cannot fly.
