Wendy Hess - Prehistoric Sun.jpg

Merril D. Smith – Composed

Inspired by Composition A by Piet Mondrian

I bleed red

onto the canvas,

my world flat, divided into

panes. Watch each open

as apartment house residents

open their windows--

here a sunny kitchen, here a

sophisticated grey living room.

Imagine

what you wish. None of it is real.

In secret, I paint myself into

the fragile bodies of flowers,

reveal our souls

blooming, dying.
