R S Kendle – Cailleach

Lament rising from mists

Come unbidden

From formless depths.

Primordial mother

Risen from the drifts of time

I know you by another name.

Walked these lands

Paths not yet trodden.

Each corrie, lairig, scree,

Lineaments graven in your image.

Bones retract into granite once more

Backbone of a venerable landscape.

Songs lost to ravening time.

Echoes that endure

In the shape of mountains.
